Background
Who, What, When
EEE began as a collaboration between the Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE), the UCI Libraries, Office of Information Technology (OIT; formerly Network & Academic Computing Services), and the University Registrar in 1995.

The first web service offered was hosting for class websites. In 1995, ten instructors created class websites with EEE’s webspace.
While class websites were first hosted in 1995, the EEE website was later launched in 1996 providing users with the following:
- Course website hosting and directory
- Auto-generated announcement-style class mailing lists
- Class discussion mailing lists upon request
In September of 1997, the “EEE Operational Group,” comprising representatives from DUE, the UCI Libraries, the University Registrar, and OIT, was formed to at as a forum for discussion of the EEE project. University Extension became the fifth EEE partner in Winter 2010.
EEE Promotion
Once EEE was up and running, an outreach program was started to promote campus participation and extol the benefits of the new services.
In efforts to promote EEE, letters were sent to every faculty member on campus, presentations were given to particular departments and within faculty meetings, posters were designed to stimulate student awareness and interest, and seminars were held for local reporters showcasing faculty and student work.
Success
EEE grew quickly and the services provided through the EEE collaboration expanded to meet campus needs.
Over time, participation grew significantly, as indicated by tool usage increases. Furthermore, the use of computer-mediated communication became so widespread and students and faculty became increasingly comfortable with email and other web services facilitated by EEE.
One of the major goals of EEE is to expose students to the kind of technology they will encounter in the professional world after leaving UCI. Most UCI students have been familiarized with using EEE’s tools and have become accustomed to exchanging email with their instructors, TAs, and fellow students. Students become better adept in using various forms of web technologies in their academic and professional careers.

Awards
The EEE website has been recognized with two Larry L. Sautter awards.
2007
Silver Award for Achievement in University Computing
In 2007, the Academic Web Technologies group of Network & Academic Computing Services and the Distribution & Document Management group (DDM) were honored for the Rapid Return system with the Larry L. Sautter Silver Award for Achievement in Univeristy Computing.
2002
Best IT Practices in Business Processes and Services
In 2002 the Academic Web Technologies group of Network & Academic Computing services was honored for the Electronic Educational Environment with the Larry L. Sautter Award for Innovation in Information Technology.
